We held two volunteering events that showcased the wide range of volunteering opportunities available in the local area with an aim to enable residents to be more active in their community.
The first of the events was held in the morning on 27th November 2019; residents from Longsight, Levenshulme and Gorton came along.
There were stalls full of volunteering opportunities from Macmillan Solutions that offers emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer in the community, Big Life Families who provide services for parents with children aged 0-5, The HideOut Youth Zone in Gorton that is a safe leisure space for young people aged 8-19, Making a Difference that provides holistic services for the disabled as well as all the opportunities here at NCA. All the stalls had local people sign up to their volunteering opportunities!
“Amazing day. Lots of information to take away and digest. Staff very friendly and I won a raffle prize. Love Longsight”
After this the community were invited to have a free lunch at Northmoor Community Diner and we drew the names for the raffle! Prizes ranged from chocolate to vouchers and we had some very happy winners!
The second event was held late afternoon on 18th March 2020; many people were self isolating by this time so we had less attendees but it was still a great event!
Macmillan Solutions were back again, with the addition of the Denton and Audenshaw Rotary Club who are looking for fundraisers and trustees and City Year UK recruiting mentors aged 18-25 to help pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This time the community was proved with a free buffet as well as another opportunity to win a raffle prize.
“Very helpful event. Good information on different stalls”
